Esterházy Palace Winter Tours

Esterházy Palace also opens its gates in winter-time. Take the opportunity to enjoy a palace tour in the off-season. In this 75 minute guided tour you will see selected highlights of our collections.
The tour takes you to the worldfamous Haydn Hall, the Great Hall which is known for its excellent accoustics, as well as to the Palace chapel.
Wander through the magnificent rooms on the bel étage at Esterházy Palace and marvel at art-historical treasures from the collection, including the Esterházy family silver – the world’s largest ensemble of Neoclassical silverware to survive as a set. On your visit you can also discover fascinating glimpses into the history of the palace as a building.
Experience exquisite objects from the Esterhazy collections such as the Venetian console table, a unique example from the oevre of the Venetian artist, Giuseppe Briati.
The systematic and chronological uncovering of the layers of wall from floor to ceiling, traces the rooms´ decorations from the 20th century back tot he 17th century, and earlier still to the masonry of the original Gothic castle.
The guided tour also offers an impressive insight in the over 300-year-old palace cellars, where you can encounter the long history of the Esterházy’s “bacchanalian” side. With over 700 rare, unusual and sometimes long-forgotten objects relating to wine and viticulture – from historic barrels to Burgenland’s oldest Baumpresse (a type of basket press) – the Wine Museum compellingly presents the history of winemaking under the Esterházy princes.
