Venus and adonis
Jeanine De Bique, soprano
B´Rock Orchestra
Venus: the goddess of love from ancient mythology, the Roman counterpart to the Greek Aphrodite, the epitome of the most beautiful femininity. However, the ancient Romans saw even more in her, because they worshiped her as Venus genetrix, which means: as the ancestor of their entire people. Her son Aeneas, who fled from burning Troy at the last minute after a brave fight against the Greeks, founded the Roman Empire in Latium after all sorts of wanderings and adventures, as can be read in Virgil. Venus: a popular subject in the arts from ancient times, such as her tragic love affair with the beautiful young man Adonis. The internationally acclaimed soprano Janine De Bique is predestined to enchant with different musical incarnations of the goddess of love, created by some of the greatest and most influential composers of the Baroque period. In the B'Rock Orchestra, the artist from Trinidad and Tobago has a first-class ensemble with whom she has been working closely for a long time: This promises an evening full of mythical splendor.
