The Voice of the Recorder

Child prodigies? They are by no means limited to the piano. Lucie Horsch took up the recorder at the age of five – not, perhaps, the most glamorous of instruments. In many cases, it is “only” used as an introduction to the world of music or remains mainly associated with the Advent and Christmas season. Not so with this super talent born in Amsterdam in 1999: she soon won various competitions, became a national sensation on Dutch television, and began her studies at the Sweelinck Academie in her hometown at the age of just 11. But that's not all: as a member of the National Children's Choir, Lucie Horsch sang at an early age under conductors such as Mariss Jansons and Sir Simon Rattle and studied piano. No wonder she was honoured with the Concertgebouw Young Talent Award in 2016. On the eve of the 1st Sunday in Advent, she demonstrates her skill in the Empiresaal as a breath-taking virtuoso for the intimate yet brilliant, glittering, and enchanting facets of the recorder. This technically demanding, colourful programme ranges from Vivaldi and Bach to the present day and includes original works as well as fantastic arrangements. The recorder, cool and hip?
