Liederabend: Thomas Hampson

Mediterranes Flair und die Reize des Balkans: Der Mandolinenvirtuose Avi Avital und Il Giardino Armonico unter Giovanni Antonini verzaubern mit beidem im Haydnsaal

Thomas Hampson, baritone

Wolfram Rieger, piano

Thomas Hampson and Wolfram Rieger: this wonderfully seasoned, close musical partnership in the world of song is ideal for celebrating Franz Schubert's 225th anniversary at Esterházy Palace. After all, Schubert is linked with a branch of the Esterházy family as a piano teacher and in his unhappy love for the Comtesse Caroline. And, parallel to his achievements on the opera stage, Hampson is one of the most important, all-round Lieder interpreters of our time. He has lost none of his curiosity and enthusiasm, nor any of the power he commands over audiences - even though the former 'Boy from Spokane' in Washington State has become a mature, soigné interpreter in the best sense of the word. Moreover, he has, happily, long since begun to pass on his enormous knowledge of music and singing to younger generations as a passionate teacher. This all comes together when Hampson and Rieger perform a song recital in Eisenstadt and lead a masterclass with hand-picked young singers on Schubert's song cycle 'Die schöne Müllerin'.
