They awaken the forgotten genre of "salon or house music" and infuse it with new life. This concert series will have three focal points: the presentation of treasures from the princely instrument collection, the rediscovery of composers whose names and work are inseparably associated with the musical tradition of the Esterházy and the history of Eisenstadt, as well as the presentation of special musical forms, which are characteristic of the “salon music” genre.
Joseph Weigl, a godchild of Haydn born in Eisenstadt, is an authentic Eisenstadt artist.
His salon cantata “Il Sacrifizio” was performed for the first time in 1806 at the Viennese court for the birthday of Emperor Franz I. More than 200 years later, I Virtuosi ambulanti from Munich will perform this composer’s work once again in his home town. Closely associated with Weigl is the musical form of the secular salon cantata, which enjoyed great popularity at the beginning of the 19th century. Written for vocal soloists accompanied by piano or small orchestra, these works represent true miniature operas. IVirtuosi ambulanti will examine this genre of works by Rossini and Donizetti in October.
